A Holiday Message on Comparison with Love, From Tazeen

Hey STUK Community,

This is Tazeen here today. Can you believe it’s December already?!

I hope everyone has had the opportunity to work on the things they planned at the beginning of the year. Even if not, there is still time to do it.

Every year, we plan on leaving behind the things that don’t serve us. One such thing that must be abandoned at all costs is comparison. But it’s difficult to do that, isn’t it?

There might be people around who have achieved a lot more than you in these past 12 months. Or that past few years. It seems as though they are so far ahead, and you are still stuck in place.

But that only means one thing. It’s their time to shine now, but very soon it will be yours too. There is enough light for ALL of us.

We each have our own timelines. Some maybe accomplishing things quicker than you. But who knows, they might be wishing for the things you have right now.

There is only so much we truly know about other people’s lives. We as humans are quite capable of hiding our pain, and plastering a smile on our faces while doing so.

While it is okay to want more, it is important to be grateful for the things we have right NOW. The only way to be satisfied with what is to come, is to appreciate what there is already. Sure you will love yourself for having achieved all that you want, but you also need to show love to the you now who is working so hard to get there.

And if looking at other people’s achievements is stopping you from appreciating yourself, then maybe it’s time to turn your head the other way.

The best thing to do, however, is to look at them and think of all that they might have gone through to be where they are now.

It’s true that not everyone suffers in the same way, with the same intensity. But we ALL struggle regardless.

No matter how glum things may seem, remember that you will soon find a way out of the fog. Just keep walking ahead.

One step in front of the other.

It is okay to walk if you can’t run, and to crawl if you can’t walk. It’s okay to rest if you cannot move at all. Just, don’t turn back.

Because something beautiful awaits you in the future. And while the journey to that place might not seem as pleasant as you expected it to be, it is still your journey. What’s yours, deserves to be cherished by you.

Why?

Because at the centre of it all, is you- a beautiful, marvellous being with immense capabilities.

So make sure to keep moving. You will soon be exactly where you want to be.
